The Mission

For the past 10 months, I've been deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. Since my arrival, people back home have asked me, "What's Iraq like?", "What do you do there?", "Is it scary?", "Are you bored?", etc. By my ninth month here, I finally figured out that the best way to answer these questions was to not answer them at all. Instead, I would show everyone the answers. One picture, taken every hour, to show what I am doing here. If a picture is truly worth a thousand words, then hopefully this blog can explain what is happening in Iraq better than any news article can.

Day 6: Meetings Galore!

2200: Sadly, Google Images will be the closest on get to a Northeast Fall..... Sighhhh.

2300: Well, Well, Well, Look what Matt bought... I need to steal this from him.

0800: Getting ready for a mission.. Check out that trash pile in the back... Gross!

0900: Driving down the highway to conduct a meeting... The guys on the right side of the road sell gas out of 5 gallon cans... Think of it as a ghetto gas station.

1000: Shaykh meeting! I obviously was under dressed for the occasion... Safe, but under dressed.

1100: Meeting Number 2! Working with some Federal Police Intelligence dudes...

1200: Headed outside to check up on the marksmanship training that the Federal Police were working on.... I don't think this guy understands that a Power Point tab isn't a good thing to have...

1300: On the way back to the base, we passed a Shurta (Federal Policeman) at a checkpoint using an explosives detector....

1400: Brownies and Milk for Matt's pre-birthday birthday! Quite possibly the best brownies I've had in quite some time.... DELICIOUS!

1500: The soldiers that live across from me decided to set up a "hang out". Creative use of office chairs, I guess...

1600: Meeting #3! I'll spare the details, but it was Super, edge of your seat, exciting... and I would never, ever, use sarcasm.... ever!

1700: Nothing like a little Iraqi sunset..... through a screen...

1800: Milk with quite possibly the best dinner I've had in Iraq....

1900: A little pre-gym juice and watching Matt do some type of dance.... too be fair, I'm 78% certain that a Lady Gaga song was on, so its entirely not his fault...
